Why blur it

When to blur a license plate

Selling a car online

Listings on Marketplace, Craigslist or Autotrader are public. Hiding the plate keeps strangers from looking up or copying your registration.

Dashcam and street photos

Plates of other drivers end up in shots you post. Covering them is a courtesy, and some platforms and countries expect it.

Car meets and social posts

Your plate links a photo to you and your address. Blur it before posting your build, your road trip or your parking spot.

FAQ

Blur license plate — FAQ

How do I blur a license plate in a photo?+

Upload the photo above, drag a box over the plate and download. Add as many boxes as you need, one per plate. Tap a box to switch it off if you drew it by mistake.

Is the photo uploaded anywhere?+

No. The photo is opened and blurred inside your browser and saved straight to your device. We never receive it.

Is it free?+

Yes. Blurring license plates in photos is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Which style hides a plate best?+

A solid black box or strong pixelation. A light blur on a large, sharp plate can sometimes still be read, so turn the strength up or pick the black box for anything sensitive.

Can I blur license plates in a video?+

Not yet. Automatic plate blur for video is planned for Cloud mode, which is not open yet. Faces in videos can already be blurred for free in Private mode on the home page.

Does it work for UK number plates and other countries?+

Yes. You draw the box yourself, so any plate shape works: US, Canadian, UK, EU, Australian and others.

Can I blur faces in the same photo?+

Yes. Drag a box over each face too, or use the face blur for photos, which finds faces automatically.
